Brennan Boesch and his bat are the perfect duo.
Boesch was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for the week of June 16-22. The announcement was madeThursday afternoon, with the Bees in the midst of an eight-game homestand.

The right fielder’s performance has been stellar. He led the division with six home runs and a league-best 1.214 slugging percentage. In addition, he led the Bees with 10 runs and 10 RBIs.

In Monday night’s game, Boesch and his partner in crime went up against the Nashville Sounds.

He doubled to left field in the second and scored off a wild pass for the Bees’ first run.

On a night where he went 2 for 4 with no homers, Boesch said the goal is more about a good hitting position than striking homers.

Try not to force it,” he said. “Think backward, less is more.

The Bees were unable to recover from the early start from the Sounds and plummeted, 8-6.

Apart from a losing season, the most important aspect for most minor leagues is personal improvement. Boesch said he is working on being more consistent and making in-game adjustments.

It’s always nice to get results from the things you have been working on,” said Boesch. “At this point, I know my swing pretty well, so it’s fine-tuning it.

The 29-year-old’s most impressive performance was in a doubleheader against the Memphis Redbirds on June 18. He slammed three over the fence, one in the first game followed by two in the second.

Last week was part of a superior month. Since coming off injury on June 1, Boesch leads the team with a .351 batting average, 24 RBIs and seven home runs.

This is Boesch’s first season with the Angels organization. The Detroit Tigers drafted him in 2006 in the third round from the University of California. The Los Angeles native has played in seven major league games with the parent team this season; in the call-up, he collected three hits including one double.
I just take care of what I can control,” said Boesch, and “when the opportunity comes, seize it.

The PCL Player of the Week honor is Boesch’s second of his career; the first time was with the Erie SeaWolves in 2009. He is also the first Bee to win since when Andrew Romine the week of August 5-11, 2013.
